Since the restaurant was founded 50 years ago, it has made a name for itself with its outstanding quality and hospitality.

The beginnings in St. Moritz

Our story begins in 1974, when Peter Bernhard began his training as a chef in St. Moritz. After working in Montreux and Zurich, he moved to Oberaudorf in Bavaria in 1978, where he found his second home. Here he initially worked as a chef in neighboring Niederaudorf before taking over the Gasthof Alpenrose together with his wife Yvonne Bernhard. The mixture of Swiss cuisine and Bavarian cordiality enchanted our guests and laid the foundation for loyal regulars.

From Switzerland to Oberaudorf

In 1999, Peter and Yvonne Bernhard fulfilled their dream of owning their own restaurant and took over the “Suppenmoser”, which they transformed into today’s Restaurant Bernhards. Through continuous renovations and a tireless commitment to quality and hospitality, the restaurant has grown into a popular meeting place for connoisseurs and gourmets.

Part of the Culinary Autumn

Since 2009 we are proud to be part of the Culinary Autumn in Chiemgau Inntal, an association of chefs dedicated to regional cuisine.

The Bernhards: A family business

In 2012, our children, Rebecca and Tobias, returned home after living abroad and joined the family business. Rebecca took over the service, while Tobias pursued his passion in the kitchen. In the same year, we expanded our offerings with the purchase of the “Seebacher Haus” across the street, which served as a branch until 2022.

Handover to the next generation

2024 marks another milestone in our history: Rebecca and her closest friend Oliver as well as Yvonne and Peter are leading DAS BERNHARDS into the future and together want to preserve the tradition of the house while at the same time setting fresh, innovative accents.

Bernhards remains a place where warmth, tradition and culinary excellence go hand in hand. We look forward to welcoming you to our restaurant and offering you an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
